Simple Ways To Use Visualization To Improve Your Life
Why does the start of a year inspire us to change? Is it the media playing up on New Year’s resolutions, an internal alarm clock that warns us of our bad diet habits or our quest to improve the weaker parts of our lives? Whatever the trigger, we optimistically seek change until something happens…apathy.
Those rosy goals we set before year’s end don’t seem so realistic or exciting in the New Year and our enthusiasm wanes.
Did you promise yourself you’d get in shape? Did you exercise for two months and later quit your plan?
We know great plans have a formula – a time frame, measurable, small actionable steps…but we fail to reach the goal because we don’t visualize our goal.
What’s visualization and how does it work?
Visualization is the power of the mind to imagine the outcome of an event. The secret is in how much detail of an event you imagine. The more accurate you are at doing this, the more positive your result.
The human subconscious mind is unable to distinguish between fact and fiction, so when you repeatedly imagine something, your mind forms neuro-networks to stimulate ideas to make your event occur.
Athletes use visualization.
A sprinter will imagine he’s at the starting blocks, the gun sound resonates and his feet leave the blocks. He’ll effortlessly run down the track with other runners behind him. Then, he’ll visualize the finish line and he’ll see himself winning.
If you have a speech to give, a project to complete, or a body to get in shape, visualize a positive outcome and set your goal. Then, work hard and your success will come. Happy New Year!
